8 Adjust the Values
To harmonize the white areas with the values in the shaded
areas, gently glaze over the highlights that stand out too much
by smudging the surrounding colors on them with a damp no. 16
round. If necessary, add small amounts of pigment to the brush
to complete the process. Adjust values in the painting in this
manner, adding color where necessary until you are satisfi ed.
Th e randomly sprinkled white spots left after the masking
was removed, in combination with the cool blue and purple color
scheme, create the atmosphere of a cold winter scene. It gives the
impression that the fi rst snow of the season has just started falling.
